Want to donate to a local food bank for the holidays? Here’s where to give
Food pantries across South Mississippi are accepting donations to make sure needy families have food in their cabinets and on their tables during the Christmas season.
Food banks typically accept all types of non-perishable foods. Some provide food to more than 30 food pantries in South Mississippi by charging organizations a reduced cost.
You also can give directly to a food pantry near you. There’s at least one sponsored by nationally recognized charitable groups in each of the six southernmost counties, and dozens more sponsored by churches.
Your donation could be as simple as a bag of food or a truck load, or cash or gift cards to buy food.
If you can’t give food or money, volunteering can be a heart-warming way to help.
Just visit these websites or pick up the phone and call one of these organizations to find out how you can contribute your time, money or goods.
