A Forever stamp coming from the U.S. Postal Service will celebrate Mississippi’s entry into statehood on Dec. 10, 1817.

The postal service chose a closeup of a blues guitar player as the image for the stamp, honoring Mississippi’s designation as birthplace of the blues.

Ironically, photographer Lou Bopp is from the Midwest and lives in New York City, according to his website. The stamp was designed by Greg Breeding, art director for the U.S. Postal Service. Breeding’s first postage stamp was in 2012.

Doug Kyle, spokesman for the postal service in Mississippi, said he has received inquiries about when the stamp would be released. There’s no exact date yet, but he said it will be coming out after the first of the year.
