Here’s where to get free health screenings on Saturday
Free health screenings and low-cost immunizations will be provided at Walmart stores in South Mississippi Saturday.
Screenings will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for blood glucose, blood pressure and body mass index. Some locations also will provide free vision screenings.
Walmart is introducing a virtual reality experience in select stores to help people stop smoking. The Centers for Disease Control says 22.7 percent of adults in Mississippi smoke cigarettes regularly.
Mississippi also is the fourth highest prescriber of opioid drugs, according to the American Physical Therapy Association. Walmart recently announced it will be the first national pharmacy chain to offer free opioid disposal at all pharmacy locations.
Walmart said in a press release that hundreds of thousands of Americans turn out for each Walmart Wellness Day, making it America’s largest single day health fair event. The company said it has provided 1.7 million free screenings and 225,000 immunizations, some of which have been life-saving.
