Five MS Coast residents win COVID-19 vaccine lottery. Here’s how much they’ll recieve.
The first winners of $2,500 in the 2 Shots 1 Coast vaccine lottery have been announced.
They were eligible for the cash prizes by being vaccinated against COVID-19 and had to live in one of Mississippi’s three Coastal counties.
The five winners are:
▪ Natasha Guillot of Long Beach
▪ Mary Lamey of Vancleave
▪ Kiani Abel of Gulfport
▪ Vann Staton of Gulfport
▪ Helen Roth of Gulfport
Four more drawings are still to come. For the next three weeks, five people will win $2,500 each week.
The grand prize drawing on Thanksgiving week will award $10,000 each to five residents for getting fully vaccinated.
Those eligible for the first drawing were residents of Harrison, Hancock and Jackson counties who became fully vaccinated with two shots of Moderna or Pfizer vaccine and registered for the drawing by Oct. 27.
The field of winners gets smaller going forward, to encourage more people to get vaccinated.
The schedule of drawings for the next weeks is:
- Nov. 3 — Newly vaccinated on or after Oct. 27 and registered by Nov. 2
- Nov. 10 — Newly vaccinated on or after Oct. 27 and registered by Nov. 9
- Nov. 17 — Newly vaccinated on or after Oct. 27 and registered by Nov. 16
The grand prize drawing will be on Nov. 22 for $10,000 each, and is open to Coast residents who are fully vaccinated and register by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19.
Unlike other vaccine lotteries around the country, 2 Shots, 1 Coast is the only program he knows of that is funded by businesses, said Ashley Edwards, president of the Gulf Coast Business Council.
Scarlet Pearl Casino provided the first $50,000 to the fund, he said, and the campaign raised over $100,000 through donations from companies in South Mississippi.
Edwards said they hoped to get 5,000 people to register for the lottery, and now has 20,000 people signed up.
