Fight breaks out after passenger refuses to wear mask on flight to Utah, video shows
A fight broke out on an Allegiant airplanebefore it left from Arizona to Utah after a man refused to wear a face mask, a video shows.
Rylie Lansford was sitting on the flight on Saturday and started recording a video when two men got into an altercation over one of them not wearing a face mask, KSL reported.
Allegiant airlines requires its passengers to wear face coverings, according to its website.
“It was absolutely insane to me because it’s all about a mask, and it didn’t need to get that way,” Lansford said, according to the KSL.
Lansford posted a video on Instagram of a man throwing punches at the man not wearing a mask.
The scuffle happened after a flight attendant asked a man who was wearing a face shield to put on a mask, Fox 13 reported. Another passenger rebuked the man who wasn’t wearing the mask and the attendant told them both they’d have to leave if they “did not tone town their behavior,” according to the station.
Lansford said the second man continued to threaten the mask-less man, who was taken off the plane by security, according to the Fox 13.
The flight from Mesa, Arizona then took off to Provo, Utah.
“The flight attendants were like, ‘Oh you get a glimpse into what we deal with,’” Lansford said in an Instagram video. “So that really sucks for them. They handled it really well.”
An Allegiant Airlines spokesperson didn’t answer questions that NBC News asked about the incident but saidface shields may be worn in addition to a face covering, but not as an alternative.
