Mississippi reports 945 new coronavirus cases; South MS deaths hit record pace

Mississippi had 945 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday with the state health department also reporting 23 new deaths, four of them in South Mississippi.

Harrison County had two new deaths for the second day in a row, Mississippi State Department of Heath numbers show, while Jackson and George counties reported one death each. South Mississippi had a total of 69 new cases, down from the seven-day average of 104 through Friday.

The state now has a total of 77,268 COVID-19 cases since the first case was reported March 11. Deaths stand at 2,237.

Cases in the six South Mississippi counties total 7,801, with 183 deaths.

George — 667 (1 new)

Hancock — 450 (2 new)

Harrison — 3,012 (28 new)

Jackson — 2,720 (24 new)

Pearl River — 672 (12 new)

Stone — 280 (2 new)
