Mississippi reports 672 new coronavirus cases, bringing total over 60,000

The Mississippi State Department of Health on Sunday reported 672 new coronavirus cases and 10 deaths.

That brings the state’s total over 60,000 total cases since March. There are 35,071 presumed recoveries.

In the lower six counties, there are 94 new cases and no new deaths.

There are two new cases in each South Mississippi county except Jackson County with 55 cases and Harrison County with 31 cases.

Total cases in South Mississippi:

George — 541 (2 new)

Hancock — 326 (2 new)

Harrison — 2,098 (31 new)

Jackson — 1,929 (55 new)

Pearl River — 482 (2 new)

Stone — 148 (2 new)

Drive-up testing on the Coast

Memorial hospital will be holding drive-up COVID-19 screening and testing sites on Aug. 5 and Aug. 13 in Harrison County.

On Aug. 5, testing will take place 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Biloxi Civic Center.

The Aug. 13 testing site will be held 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the D’Iberville Community Center.

People are urged to visit the drive-up site if they have been experiencing flu-like symptoms: body aches, fever, coughing, sneezing, chills or shortness of breath. Sick individuals are asked to stay in their vehicles and wait for assistance. Social distancing will be observed.

Only people who meet medical criteria during the screening process will be tested for COVID-19.
