2 branches of a Coast bank have closed temporarily after COVID exposure
Two branches of Regions Bank in South Mississippi are closed temporarily due to the coronavirus.
The locations on Cowan Road in Gulfport and on D’Iberville Boulevard in D’Iberville are closed, although the ATMs there continue to operate. Customers at the two branches are referred to one of several other Regions Bank locations on the Coast if they need assistance.
All the Regions Banks have operated with drive-up windows and ATMs since the coronavirus began. Customers are allowed inside by appointment only, said Cheryl Johnson, market executive of Mississippi Gulf Coast Regions Bank.
If someone comes into the bank and later notifies Regions they have symptoms of the coronavirus, the branch is closed except for the ATM, she said.
“Fourteen days is the maximum we do that,” she said, and the office is cleaned and sanitized before reopening.
“That’s just doing the right thing for our customers and our associates,” she said.
If the person tests negative for COVID-19, the office reopens sooner, she said.
At a time when customers are most concerned about their health and safety, this method is used across the footprint of Regions Bank, she said.
“We just can’t take the chance of making customers or associates ill. Their safety is our first concern,” she said.
