Mississippi records 797 new coronavirus cases, health department figures show
Mississippi on Saturday reported 797 new coronavirus cases with 15 deaths, two on the Coast in Harrison and Jackson county.
Saturday’s report from the State Department of Health, which covers cases found Friday, shows 703 people hospitalized with a confirmed case of COVID-19, and another 260 hospitalized with suspected cases waiting on test results.
The six counties of South Mississippi had 86 new cases. The Coast’s total now is at 2,533 cases and 85 deaths since March 11.
Gov. Tate Reeves’ mask mandate for certain Mississippi counties goes into effect at 8 a.m. Monday and orders that masks must be worn in public by people in Harrison, Jackson and 11 other counties in the state with rapidly increasing case numbers. The governor released the details of the order Friday.
Total cases in South Mississippi counties are:
George — 116 (4 new)
Hancock —144 (3 new)
Harrison — 1,136 (40 new)
Jackson — 775 (31 new)
Pearl River —288 (7 new)
Stone — 74 (1 new)
