100+ coronavirus cases in South Mississippi sets a daily record. MS has 44 new deaths.
The 105 new cases of coronavirus reported in the lower six counties South Mississippi shatters the previous single day record of 97 set just a few days ago on July 4.
Jackson County had nearly half of the new cases, with 51.
Mississippi State Department of Health reported 2 more deaths in the six Coast counties, 1 in Jackson County and Stone County’s second death, bringing the total in South Mississippi to 78 deaths and 2,217 cases.
Statewide there were 956 new cases reported today and 44 additional deaths, only 10 of which were from reviews of death certificate reports from June 17-28. None of those were in South Mississippi.
The report was released later Tuesday afternoon as the MSDH posted on social media: “We’re taking extra time today to review our COVID-19 reporting data after some data entry mistakes were found this morning.”
The state reached a new high of coronavirus patients hospitalized at 648, and 237 are in the hospital with suspected cases. There are 173 patients in intensive care and 95 patients on ventilators.
Presumed recoveries as of July 5 is 22,167.

George — 91 (2 new)
Hancock — 134 (4 new)
Harrison — 969 (36 new)
Jackson — 689 (51 new)
Pearl River — 265 (8 new)
Stone — 60 (4 new)
Feed My Sheep, in partnership with Coastal Family Health, will offer free COVID-19 screening and testing from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Feed My Sheep, 2615 19th St. in Gulfport.
