Two Coast counties now on top 12 list of most new coronavirus cases in Mississippi
Harrison and Jackson counties are still seeing double-digit increases in new coronavirus cases as Mississippi State Department of Health reports Monday 357 new cases across the state.
There are 3 additional deaths, none in South Mississippi. That brings total cases in the nearly four months since the first coronavirus case was reported to 31,257 and deaths to 1,114.
South Mississippi has 43 new cases Monday and 0 new deaths, for a total of 2,112 cases and 76 deaths in the six lower counties.
For the week ended July 5, Harrison County has the third-highest new cases of any county in the state at 84. That was a 10% increase over the previous week. Jackson County had the 11th greatest increase last week with 38 new cases.
The number of new cases dipped slightly over the July 4 holiday, but the total stands at 405 since July 1 in the lower six counties.
Through July 5, presumed recoveries statewide are 22,167.
The Department of Health said the number of hospitalizations will be reported later in the day. Hospitalizations hit a record 647 on July 3. At that time, 175 patients were in intensive care units and 88 were on ventilators.
