Over 1,000 Mississippians have now died of COVID-19. Here are the new case counts.
A day after Mississippi set another single-day record for new coronavirus cases with 611, the state health department announced its second-biggest total on Wednesday at 526.
The state also announced 22 new deaths, clearing the 1,000 mark at 1,011. None of the newly reported deaths are in the state’s southernmost six counties.
There has been only one death from COVID-19 reported in South Mississippi in the last seven days.
Of the 44 new cases reported in South Mississippi on Wednesday, Harrison County leads the way with 15 and Jackson County is close behind at 14.
Harrison County also is now the first in South Mississippi to clear the 500 mark for total cases.
There have been 23,424 cases of COVID-19 reported in the state since the health department first started releasing figures on March 11.
The number of patients hospitalized in Mississippi with confirmed cases of COVID-19 jumped by 34 in Wednesday’s numbers with 524 — the highest since June 3. There were another 244 patients hospitalized with suspected cases — the highest number since June 3 and a single-day increase of 69.
The number of patients in intensive care stands at 157 with 91 on ventilators.

Stone — 44 (1 new)
