Mississippi tops 20,000 coronavirus cases and 900 deaths. Take a look at Coast numbers
South Mississippi is holding at 68 coronavirus deaths for the past nine days but the daily number of new cases is more than triple the levels of 10 days ago.
Today’s report from the Mississippi Department of Health shows 353 new cases and 20 deaths statewide. That pushes the totals to 20,152 cases and the number of deaths to 915.
From 358 people hospitalized with coronavirus in Mississippi on June 6, the total rose to 486 by June 11 and today is down to 451.
There are now 15,323 people presumed to have recovered from coronavirus in Mississippi.
While South Mississippi has had no new deaths since June 8, cases continue to accelerate as people return to Coast businesses and attend graduation parties, funerals and other events. Today there are 24 new cases, most of them in Harrison and Jackson counties.
Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula reported 6 new cases of coronavirus since Sunday after just 1 new case last week.
The 7-day average of new cases in South Mississippi stands at 19.7 compared to 6.1 on June 6.
Total cases for South Mississippi since March 11 are 1,152. By county totals are:
George — 40 (3 new)
Hancock — 100 (0 new for four days)
Harrison — 377 (10 new)
Jackson — 378 (11 new)
Pearl River — 223 (0 new for two days)
Stone — 34 (1 fewer)
