Live updates May 18: Coast has new COVID-19 cases but no deaths for 4th day in a row

There are no new deaths related to COVID-19 in the lower six counties for the fourth day in a row.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reports statewide there are 136 new cases and 7 new deaths.

There are three new coronavirus cases on the Coast, with one each in Harrison, Jackson and Hancock counties.

Here are the new totals:

George — 17 (0 new)

Hancock — 81 (1 new)

Harrison — 216 (1 new)

Jackson — 287 (1 new)

Pearl River — 195 (0 new)

Stone — 24 (0 new)

4:20 p.m.

Jackson County offices have reopened to the public with social distancing and other guidelines in place.

Signs have been posted asking visitors not to enter County buildings or offices if they have been in close contact with a confirmed case of the new coronavirus in the past 14 days or experienced symptoms like fever, coughing, shortness of breath or the loss of taste or smell.

County employees are required to participating in daily screening prior to the start of the work day.

Some departments may screen visitors as well.

Noon

Coast Transit Authority is resuming all normal routes and schedules starting Thursday for the reopening of casinos.

All routes will return to 45/90 minutes Monday-Sunday, including the Casino Hopper. The normal fare collections also will return.

These are the precautions still in place to prevent spread of coronavirus:

  • Passengers must keep their mouth and nose covered at all times when riding or waiting for a bus.
  • Buses and facilities are limited to 10 people at a time.
  • Everyone must use 6 feet of social distancing.
  • Passenger Code of Conduct will be enforced.

8 a.m.

After six days without any new cases of coronavirus, Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula reported 5 new cases Friday through Sunday. Total cases at the shipyard are now 40, with 31 of those employees now eligible to return to work.

Weekend highlights:

There were 173 new coronavirus cases and 11 new deaths reported by the Mississippi State Department of Health.

In the lower six counties, there was 1 new case in Hancock County and 2 in Jackson County. There are no new deaths in South Mississippi.
