Pornhub gets a little less filthy with new website dedicated to handwashing videos
Amid the coronavirus outbreak, Pornhub is encouraging viewers to scrub their dirty, dirty hands.
On Wednesday, the adult entertainment website officially launched “Scrubhub,” a porn-free platform featuring handwashing videos, according to a press release. It’s essentially where “dirty fratboys” and “HOT MILFS” meet the mundane, but very important task of washing their hands.
Officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention insist that giving your palms a bath for 20 seconds or more is the best way to prevent the spread of the disease that has infected almost 611,000 people across the United States. More than 26,000 Americans have died from the virus as of Wednesday, and over 50,000 have recovered.
Pornhub says it is doing its part to keep viewers healthy and safe amid the pandemic.
Its squeaky-clean Scrubhub site is the result of a partnership between the company and Los Angeles-based creatives Ani Acopian and Suzy Shinn, Forbes reports. The duo is also the brains behind parody site Amazon Dating, which launched in February and has racked up over 150,000 applications.
“We wanted to take something as mundane as washing your hands and make it entertaining in the only way we know how (by taking a joke way too far),” Acopian and Shinn said in a joint statement. “Scrubhub started as a fun idea that, thanks to Pornhub’s platform, we’ve turned into a destination for creativity and connection for the greater good.”
Web developer Scott Buscemi also worked on the parody website.
Scrubhub features hundreds of videos showing people as they wash their hands. Though the titles are satiric and mimic adult titles (i.e. “This Big Chocolate Furry is Eager to Get Wet for Cookies”), the site promises only good, clean fun — without the porn.
“Over the past few weeks, the one thing that has been repeated by literally everyone — politicians, scientists, celebrities and athletes — has been the importance of washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water to protect against this virus,” Corey Price, the vice president at Pornhub, said in a news release. “We thought this presented a unique opportunity for Pornhub to bring some joy to something that has become so mundane and repetitive.”
“Sometimes lighthearted content can be cathartic and help foster a sense of social cohesion,” Price added. “Let’s all come together and do our part to stay safe and ultimately defeat this virus.”
As part of its COVID-19 relief efforts, Pornhub has made its premium adult content free for all users and recently donated 50,000 masks to front-line workers in New York City who are fighting the virus, according to the New York Post. The company has a few more good deeds up its sleeve.
Over on Scrubhub, there will be live takeovers twice daily at 3 p.m. EST and 9 p.m. EST to benefit nonprofit groups dedicated to COVID-19 relief, the company announced Wednesday. The takeovers will feature musicians and comedians, among other personalities, and donations will go to two charities: Invisible Hands, a grocery delivery service for the elderly and disabled in the New York area, and Frontline Foods, a charity that partners with local restaurants to deliver meals to hospital clinicians in Los Angeles, the press release says.
“We’re proud to be partnering with our friends at Invisible Hands and Frontline Foods to make a difference and raise money for those affected by COVID-19,” Acopian and Shinn said.
PornHub will also make an initial donation to support both causes.
