Live updates: Civilian employee at Navy Seabee base among those to die of coronavirus
A civilian employee at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport is among the Mississippians to die of coronavirus, the Seabee base reported Sunday.
The employee had underlying health conditions and is believed to have contracted the virus through community spread and not on base.
On Sunday, the Mississippi State Department of Health reported 11 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths due to COVID-19 to 93 deaths statewide.
In six southern-most counties of South Mississippi, 1 new death was reported in Pearl River County, bringing the total numbers of deaths there to 7.
There are 3 new cases of coronavirus in Harrison County, 1 more in Jackson County and 1 more in Stone County.
The state reported 139 new positive cases statewide, bringing the total to 2,781 cases. There are now 390 cases of coronavirus in the lower six counties, and 22 deaths.
On Saturday, the MSDH reported the largest increase in deaths statewide in one day, with 11 deaths reported.
To date, the state has tested 20,370 people, which accounts for less than 1% of the population.

- George — 7 (0 new)
- Hancock — 40 (2 new)
- Harrison — 110 (3 new)
- Jackson — 140 (1 new)
- Pearl River — 83 (1 new)
- Stone — 10 (1 new)

The Moss Point School District is temporarily suspending all food delivery and pickups due to an increase in the number of coronavirus cases in Jackson County.
1:30 p.m.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 525,704 cases of coronavirus on Sunday and another 20,486 deaths due to COVID-19 in the U.S.
That is 33,288 additional cases and another 1,927 deaths in the U.S. as of Sunday..
8 a.m.
Singing River Health System reported 7 more people tested positive for coronavirus, upping the total to 144.
7:30 a.m.
Ingalls Shipbuilding reported 2 new case of coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases at the shipyard to 17. The latest two workers to test positive are contractors last at the shipyard on April 9.
7 a.m.
The threat of severe weather continues in South Mississippi on Easter Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
There is an enhanced risk of tornadoes, damaging winds of up to 60 mph and large hail.
The threat includes a wind advisory and coastal flooding advisory, primarily in the afternoon and evening.
