Third Biloxi firefighter test positive for coronavirus

Three Biloxi firefighters have tested positive for COVID-19, Fire Chief Joe Boney said Saturday.

The first two employees to receive positive tests are in their mid-40s to mid-50s and received the positive results Friday, he said. A third firefighter learned he had positive results Saturday.

“They are are self-quarantined at home and they are being treated,” Boney said. “We know who they came into contact with. Our firefighters are self-quarantining at home when they start to feel to bad.”

The firefighters received the tests after they called their healthcare providers to report their symptoms.

All firefighters are now wearing protective gear, including masks, gloves and gowns, when they respond to medical calls to protect them from contracting the virus.

“We are monitoring everybody,” Boney said. “We are decontaminating trucks and fire stations twice a day. That’s about all we can do.”
