Two Biloxi VA employees test positive for coronavirus
Two employees of the Biloxi VA tested positive for the coronavirus Friday, VA public affairs specialist Bruce Cummings said.
The employees are in self-isolation at home to prevent any risk of transmission to other patients or staff.
The Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System in Biloxi is working to identify any other employees who may have come into contact with them so it can monitor those veterans and staff members as well.
“VA is screening Veterans and staff who present with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath who meet the CDC criteria for evaluation of COVID-19 infection,” Cummings said in the statement.
A “no visitor” policy has been implemented at the Biloxi VA.
The policy allows one family member or caregiver to accompany veterans to appointments, surgeries, or to serve as a support person for vets in hospice care.
All access will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Meanwhile, some veterans from the New Orleans VA hospital will be moved to the Biloxi VA to ease the caseload at the Crescent City campus, VA officials said.
