Three Stennis Space Center employees have tested positive for coronavirus
A third Stennis Space Center employee has tested positive for the new coronavirus, the agency says.
The case was confirmed Wednesday night, an agency notice said. The employee is in self-quarantine and Stennis is tracking down individuals with potential exposure through the medical office’s contact tracing team.
“The contact tracing process indicated that the employee briefly visited the NEXCOM mart the morning of Monday, March 16th,” the notice said.
Because those with potential exposure have already been notified, Stennis said it was sharing the infected individual’s whereabouts to keep the space center community abreast of COVID-19 developments, not because they might have exposure.
The notice said affected facilities had been closed and were being cleaned.
Stennis planned to resume limited grounds maintenance near mission-critical facilities in order to minimize risks from snakes, rodents and other wildlife.
The Space Center is continuing mandatory telework for NASA personnel until further notice.
The notice says, “Access to Stennis remains limited to personnel supporting activities necessary to protect life and critical infrastructure, as identified by the resident agencies and SSC leadership.”
Employees reporting to work are practicing social distancing and other personal protection measures to minimize any spread of COVID-19, the notice says.
