SRHS doctor tests positive for coronavirus after traveling out of state, hospital says
A physician at Singing River Health System has tested positive for coronavirus, the hospital confirmed.
The doctor is over age 65 and received the positive report after returning home from a trip out of state, said SRHS CEO Lee Bond.
“This individual is currently at home in isolation and asymptomatic, doing very well,” Bond said.
He didn’t reveal in which department the doctor works, but informed the 2,600 staff members Friday of the potential risk.
Everyone who had high potential exposure to the physician since he or she returned home are being screened and tested as appropriate, he said.
Bond said only one other employee has tested positive for coronavirus since the outbreak. That person contracted it while traveling out of the country, he said.
“That employee self-isolated and recovered well,” Bond said.
Bond said 30 employees have high potential exposure contact to COVID-19 patients since the outbreak began. All test results so far have come back negative, he said.
