A Moss Point city employee is hospitalized with coronavirus, mayor says
A Moss Point city employee has tested positive for the new coronavirus, mayor Mario King revealed in a live video he posted on Facebook.
King broke the news while discussing the importance of people following guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control.
“We’re taking all precautionary measures,” King said. “The last time this individual was at City Hall was last Thursday. This individual is hospitalized. I want you all to know that this is a very serious condition. There’s no one way to determine how the person contracted (COVID-19).
“The individual could have contracted it at any point an time. We just don’t know. That’s why we have to limit the exposure to this virus.”
King has been critical of Gov. Tate Reeves and his resistance to taking stricter measures to halt the spread of COVID-19.
“The number is increasing daily,” King said. “We have to follow recommendations. We need to be mandating people to stay home. A lot of people are still out, moving around.
“Your decision could impact a whole lot of other people.”
The employee’s condition was not known Monday night.
The Mississippi Department Health reported Monday that there are seven confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Jackson County.
