Sailor trainee is 3rd to test positive for coronavirus at Gulfport Navy base

A third individual at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport has tested positive for the new coronavirus, according to a release from the base’s public affairs office.

The most recent person to test positive is described as a trainee Sailor who underwent a test on March 18 and received a positive result from Keesler Medical Center on Monday.

According to the release, the trainee Sailor is undergoing treatment and will be placed in isolation for 14 days.

The staff and students who had prolonged close contact with the patient will be placed in quarantine for 14 days to self-monitor for any symptoms.

The base plans to do a deep cleaning of the classroom where the course was being conducted. The course will be put on hold during the quarantine.

The first two people at the Naval Construction Battalion Center to test positive for COVID-19 were civilian employees. One works in a retail area of the base and the other is employed as a bagger person in the the base’s commissary.
