Mississippi liquor stores offer cubside pickup during coronavirus pandemic
The Mississippi Department of Revenue temporarily amended its rules to allow liquor stores in the state to sell bottles of alcohol to customers either online or by phone.
Customers can then pick up their purchases in the package stores’ parking lots.
Mississippi Alcoholic Beverage Control is allowing phone and online sales of alcoholic beverages at licensed package store retailers throughout the state.
The alcohol can be picked up by the customer in the package store parking lot, said Pat Daily, deputy chief of ABC’s enforcement division.
The measure applies only to package stores, not restaurants and bars, he said.
“You can’t call food in and then try to get a Jim Beam and Coke and pick it up at the same time,” Daily said.
The state Department of Revenue on Monday temporarily amended its administrative code to allow the online and phone sales. The measure was taken in response to Gov. Tate Reeves’ declaration of a state of emergency due to COVID-19.
The new rule is in effect until April 30, but could be extended, the Department of Revenue reported.
