Coronavirus

New senior shopping hour. Here’s when Coast grocery stores are open amid coronavirus.

Grocery stores across the Mississippi Coast and the country are changing their hours to re-stock and clean overnight amid concerns about the spread of the new coronavirus.

Both Winn-Dixie and Dollar General are encouraging customers to help dedicate an hour of shopping to seniors.

“Dollar General wants to provide these at-risk customers with the ability to purchase the items they need and want at the beginning of each day to avoid busier and more crowded shopping periods,” a press release said.

Stores also will close an hour earlier to allow for re-stocking and cleaning.

Winn-Dixie said in a letter to customers that stores would close at 9 p.m. beginning Monday and until further notice.

“This change will give our associates the time they need to appropriately restock our stores, and ensure our stores are able to conduct additional sanitation procedures in service of providing a shopping experience our customers can always count on,” the company said.

Seniors and high-risk customers can shop from 8-9 a.m. in all Winn-Dixie stores Monday through Friday. Pharmacy locations open at 8 a.m. on weekdays.
