Gulfport casino developers want to wait a month

Site approval for property at the Gulfport harbor is still in the name of Rotate Black after Thursday’s Mississippi Gaming Commission meeting in Jackson.

Allen Godfrey, executive director of the Gaming Commission, said the attorney for developers of a new casino on the property asked to delay site approval in the name of Gulfport Gaming Development because of an issue with the application. Godfrey did not elaborate.

The Gaming Commission deferred action and Godfrey said, “They said they’ll be back next month.”

Gulfport Gaming Development proposes building a $140 million casino on the same site where Rotate Black tried for several years to build a Hemingway-themed casino resort.

This request is just for site approval. Virginia attorney Robert Lubin and Kentucky casino-company owner Kevin Preston will have to return to the Gaming Commission to get permission to proceed with construction after they have raised the money to build the casino.
