Super Bowl Sunday had televisions at sportsbooks, bars and homes tuned into the game, and one series of bets of more than a half-million dollars on the outcome wagered at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino in Biloxi.

An unidentified player bet a combined $548,000 on three wagers Sunday, said Richie Lyon, BetMGM sportsbook manager.

The bets were placed at the casino shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday, just over an hour before the 5:30 p.m. start of the game.

The largest was a straight bet of $348,000 on the New England Patriots, with 4.5 points. If the bet was a winner, the man who placed it would win $331,428.55 plus the return of his original bet, to collect $679,428.55.

The other two wagers were parlay bets of $100,000 each, the first with a Patriots victory and total points over (45.5), and the other with the Patriots +4.5 points and the over. If all three bets were successful, the bettor would have walked out with more than $1 million in winnings.

“Most people are on the other side of that — the Seahawks,” Lyon said.

Those who bet Seattle, though, were the winners, as the Seahawks outplayed the Patriots and won 29-13. The man who wagered $548,000 lost all three of his bets.

The next largest bet at the Beau Rivage sportsbook was $55,000, he said, also for New England to win.

ESPN reports Sunday that 60% of the money bet on the game’s point spread was on Seattle at DraftKings Sportsbook, and the Seahawks to win the game outright was the most popular parlay leg at Hard Rock Bet.

Seattle is favored by 4.5 points.

Americans are expected to legally wager a record $1.76 billion on the game and prop bets, like which team will win the coin toss or score the first touchdown.e, according to the American Gaming Association.

IP Casino Biloxi doesn’t provide details of specific bets, but a majority of bets at the IP are on the Seahawks, a spokesperson said, and that is consistent with what Boyd Gaming casinos are seeing across the country.

Lyon said the sportsbook at the Beau Rivage is “slammed” Sunday with people placing bets on the outcome of the game and also on basketball and even colors.

“People are betting Gatorade colors,” he said. BetMGM Sportsbook says orange (+225) is the favored Gatorade bath color, followed closely by yellow/lime/green and blue at +260. Yellow/green was the winner.

The largest reported bet on the game is a $2 million wager by Texas furniture tycoon Jim “Mattress Mack“ McIngvale, who went through Caesars Sportsbook and picked the New England Patriots to win.

McIngvale famously paraded through Scarlet Pearl Casino in D’Iberville in 2019 with a briefcase of money and placed a $3.5 million bet on Houston to win the World Series. He upped his bet at Scarlet Pearl, the Beau Rivage and other casinos, and lost when the Washington Nationals took the series. A year later, he turned a $10 million wager at multiple casinos on the Astros to win the World Series into a $75 million record payout.
