Robert “Rob” Calhoun is the new chief executive officer of Merit Health Biloxi effective Sept. 26.

Former CEO Monte Bostwick resigned in July to take a position at a hospital system in Texas.

Calhoun has 14 years of hospital administrative experience and has been CEO of Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, a 122-bed Community Health Systems-affiliated hospital in Ronceverte, West Virginia, for the last three years. He also served as CEO and in other executive positions at CHS-affiliated hospitals in Missouri and Kentucky.

During his time at Greenbrier, the hospital achieved its best American Osteopathic Association survey in years and ranked third in West Virginia for quality of care initiatives related to value-based purchasing.

He helped create a surgicalist program that resulted in 24/7 general surgery coverage and initiated GVMC’s Hospitalist/Pediatric Hospitalist programs. He also helped to recruit 15 new physicians to the community, expanding coverage in general surgery, orthopedics, ENT, vascular, pathology and primary care.

He holds a master’s degree in health administration from the Medical University of South Carolina and a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Clemson University.
