The Memorial Hospital Foundation in Gulfport has received a $180,000 gift from the estate of John and Edythe Meyer of Long Beach.

Edythe and Cmdr. John Meyer were married in 1947 and spent years traveling the world together. Following John's career in the U.S. Air Force, they retired to the Gulf Coast. Edythe was an artist, and found her niche while living in Japan when they were stationed there.

The Meyer gift, one of the largest estate settlements received by the Foundation, will be earmarked to support the Memorial Emergency Department.

"We are truly overwhelmed by the Meyers' generosity," said Christine Weiland, director of Memorial Emergency Services.
