With a Walmart Cheer from the employees and a ribbon cutting, customers flooded into the new Biloxi Walmart Supercenter on C.T. Switzer Road today at 8 a.m.
Mayor A.J. Holloway joined Michael McDavid, Biloxi Walmart general manager, for the ribbon cutting ceremony and said, "It's a great day for the city of Biloxi."
Customers and officials were treated to coffee and cake as they entered the new store. It is 30,000 square feet larger than the store on Pass Road, which closed last night after 25 years. The Superstore employs about 300 people, which is 85 more than the smaller Walmart.
During the ceremony, Walmart will present $4,250 to local organizations, including the Edgewater Rotary Club of Biloxi, Fisher House at Keesler Air Force Base, the Humane Society of South Mississippi, and Loaves and Fishes Community Kitchen Food Bank and $6,370 to the United Way.
