Opening date announced for ALDI grocery store in Ocean Springs
Construction is nearing completion and the opening date is announced for the $4 million ALDI grocery store on U.S. 90 in Ocean Springs.
The company confirmed a soft opening will be held on Aug. 24. The official opening will come Aug. 25 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m.
The 21,000 square foot discount grocery store is at 3801 Bienville Blvd., near Navigator Credit Union and just west of Walmart Supercenter and Whataburger on the east side of the city.
Mayor Kenny Holloway said improvements are being made at Deana Drive to accommodate the extra traffic, and a turn lane and a traffic signal will be added.
Shoppers have waited for an ALDI since 2018, when it first was announced the chain would be coming to Ocean Springs in a different location.
ALDI grocery store was the fastest growing grocery chain in the country last year, opening nearly 100 locations, and is third largest grocer in the country after Kroger and Walmart.
ALDI bills itself at “no-frills” shopping with discount prices every day. The aisles are filled with many of its own brands along with fresh produce and organic foods, seasonal products, housewares, pet supplies, decor and other non-grocery items.
Here is how ALDI is different than warehouse markets and other grocery stores:
- No membership card is needed.
- Store brand and off-brand products are featured more than nationally recognizable brands.
- Shoppers pay 25 cent deposit on the grocery card as an added incentive to return the cart so they aren’t rolling around the parking lot and into shoppers’ vehicles.
- Customers are encouraged to bring their own bags or buy ALDI reusable bags.
Every store has online shopping, curbside pickup and delivery.
Another ALDI store will open on Mississippi 43 in Picayune.
