Simon Youth Foundation will again present more than $1 million in scholarships to graduating seniors living near Gulfport Premium Outlets and other Simon, Mills and Premium Outlets across the country.
The deadline is Feb. 15 to apply for next year’s awards.
This year, the foundation awarded $1.6 million in scholarships to 335 students nationwide, including two students in South Mississippi. Trey Scott, a graduate of Gulfport High School, received a $1,500 Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarship to help with his plans to attend Mississippi State University and pursue a degree in engineering. Logan Virgilio, a graduate if Harrison Central High School, was presented with a $500 Simon Youth Foundation Power of Orange Scholarship. He planned to major in biology at Millsaps College.
Simon Youth Community Scholarships are awarded to deserving students who live within 50 miles of a Simon property. Any student graduating in 2018 and who lives in the one of these communities is eligible.
At least one student living near Gulfport Premium Outlets will receive a scholarship each year.
Recipients receive up to $1,500 toward tuition and other educational expenses at an accredited college, university, vocational or technical school, the company said. Applicants will be evaluated based on academic promise, financial need, essay response, letter of recommendation, work experience and community/extracurricular involvement
An Award of Excellence also will be presented to the top applicant from a Simon Premium Outlet, who will receive a $10,000 award ($2,500 for up to four years).
