An eclipse had to happen to get this doughnut to change its glaze

Eclipse mania continues as the nation prepares for the first total solar eclipse over the U.S. since 1979.

On Aug. 21 there will be momentary periods of darkness in some parts of the country, stretching from coast to coast.

And the sky will not be the only thing that goes dark that day.

Krispy Kreme will also be making history by offering chocolate glazed doughnuts.

Although Krispy Kreme has long served a chocolate-iced doughnut, the chocolate glazed doughnut will be the original Krispy Kreme doughnut glazed in chocolate as it rolls down the conveyer belt. This is will be the first time it has changed its original glazed doughnut.

While you will have to wait until Aug. 21 for the eclipse, the doughnut chain will be testing the chocolate glazed donuts the evenings of Aug. 19 and 20, the weekend before the eclipse — just look for the “Hot Light.”
