Ocean Springs' Walter Anderson Museum names new curator
Mattie Codling is the new curator of Ocean Springs' Walter Anderson Museum of Art.
Codling became the museum's curator April 25. Out of several candidates reviewed, she emerged at the top of the list for her background in museum studies and enthusiasm for promoting the work of Walter Anderson, according to a press release from the museum.
"I am excited for the future of the museum," she said. "We have a unique treasure in the works of Walter Anderson and his family, a treasure that I am honored to be able to preserve and promote."
Codling is working on several projects and is looking forward to collaborating with the community in her efforts. Her exhibition goals involve a greater involvement between the visitor and the museum, the release said.
Her background includes involvement in other museums, including Mission San Luis in Tallahassee, Fla., and the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of Mississippi, where she double majored in art history and anthropology. She earned her master's degree in art history from Florida State University with a graduate specialization in museum studies.
