Wreck kills 2 college students from Ocean Springs

MOBILE -- Two young women from Ocean Springs died Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Alabama.

Alabama State Trooper Jamie Maloy said Erika Elaine Larson, 18, and Sarah Jean Rushing, 20 died in the wreck that occurred about 5:40 a.m. in the westbound lanes near Exit 10, about 8 miles southwest of Mobile.

Occupants from both vehicles were ejected, and both sides of I-10 for three miles were shut down until 11:35 a.m.

Maloy said three others were injured and were taken to area hospitals. Their conditions were not released.

Details of how the wreck occurred are not yet available as Alabama state troopers continue to investigate, Maloy said.

According to her obituary, Larson graduated from Ocean Springs High School in 2015 was an honors student at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Riemann Family Funeral Home in Ocean Springs is handling arrangements.

Rushing graduated from St. Martin High School in 2014, according to her obituary was studying radiology at MGCCC. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday followed by services 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
