Motoryclist dies in wreck

GULFPORT -- A Gulfport man has died after a Saturday-afternoon motorcycle wreck in Gulfport.

Harrison County coroner Gary Hargrove said Curtis Wicker, 46, died Saturday afternoon at Garden Park Hospital.

"Mr. Wicker was driving a motorcycle and was involved in an accident around 1:15 p.m. on Saturday," Hargrove said. "He was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 2:55 p.m. He died of injuries received to his head and chest."

Police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said the motorcycle wrecked on Duckworth Road. McDaniel said Wicker hit an eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe on Duckworth Road that had stopped to make a turn. Wicker was attempting to go around the SUV when he hit its front, McDaniel said.

The driver of the Tahoe was not injured.
