Program honors Biloxi World War II hero
A family's attic treasures are the focus of "Local World War II Hero: A Tribute to Louis Hengen" at 3 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Biloxi Public Library, 580 Howard Ave. The items were recently donated to the library's Local History and Genealogy Department
The exhibit is timed near the anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day, said librarian Jane Shambra.
It covers five years of the life of Biloxi native Hengen, who served stateside and in the European Theater of Operations.
In this time capsule of military artifacts are his uniforms, helmets, a steamer trunk, newspapers and even comics his family found stored in his attic after he and his wife died.
