Sheen, globs of oil floating off western end of Horn Island

A thin sheen of oil, mixed with rust-colored globs, is floating about 400 yards off the western end of Horn Island.

The sheen and oil globs are floating just off the shore of the island in Dog Keys Pass, about a 15-minute boat ride from Pascagoula.

The globs carry a film of oil with them when scooped from the water and smell heavily of oil.

Dozens of Vessels of Opportunity boats are in the Sound, some of them laying boom near the Ocean Springs harbor.

Just beyond the sheen, a dolphin was spotted in the surf and a pelican was sunning himself.

A dead bird was seen floating in the oil sheen field.
