WEST POINT – Five men and a woman have been arrested so far in connection with a fatal drive-by shooting in West Point in early June.
West Point police were called to the Meadowbrook Circle area before 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, for a shots fired call. The responding officers discovered that two individuals had been struck by gunfire during a drive-by shooting at 174 Meadowbrook Circle.
One of the victims, Kolby Gann, 23, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second victim was carried to a local hospital where they were treated and later released.
The investigation has lead to a half-dozen people being charged so far with more arrests expected.
Two weeks after the fatal shooting, police arrested Damari Brown, 18, and Kailey Walker, 19, on June 18. Brown was charged with first-degree murder, drive-by shooting and tampering with physical evidence. He was released from the Clay County Jail after posting a $565,000 bond. Walker was charged with accessory after the fact. She was released on a $150,000 bond.
Nicklas Broyles was arrested June 24 and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was released on a $250,000 bond.
On June 25, West Point police arrested Eric Blanchard Jr., 24; Jamarcus Loyd, 22; and Ja'Marquez Melton, 22. Each man was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and later released on $250,000 bonds each.
A condition of all six bonds was that the suspects wear GPS monitors on their ankles.
Police officials say this is still an active and ongoing murder investigation. Additional arrests are expected as detectives continue to follow leads.
