Shannon woman accused of pistol-whipping at central Tupelo park

TUPELO – A Shannon woman is facing felony charges following an altercation during which she allegedly pistol-whipped a victim multiple times.

Police responded to the emergency room at North Mississippi Medical Center on South Gloster Street June 20 to take a report on someone who had been assaulted. The victim said they were at Gumtree Park when a suspect approached them and started an altercation. During the incident, the suspect produced a firearm and struck the victim in the face repeatedly with the firearm.

Less than a week later, Maila D. Carpenter, 18, of County Road 109, Shannon, was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated assault.

During her initial appearance, Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Harry Sumner set her bond at $30,000.
