A Mississippi state trooper was seriously injured Saturday in a motorcycle crash on the exit ramp at the intersection of Highway 67 and Highway 605, said Sean Tindell, commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

When authorities responded around 4 p.m., the MHP trooper was near a ditch near the intersection, Tindell said.

“He somehow ended up off the road,” Tindell said.

The trooper, identified as Tavon Moore, was first taken to Gulfport Memorial Hospital, then transferred to University Medical Center in New Orleans for treatment.

“Trooper Moore has some serious injuries,” Tindell said. “I’ve been with him and his family at Gulfport Memorial Hospital. They are standing strong and he is in our deepest prayers as he continues to fight. The good news is they said he was in stable condition. We are praying for him.”

The crash is under investigation.
