Harrison Central goes into lockdown over ‘unauthorized’ call
A lockdown at Harrison Central High School on Thursday was the result of an “unauthorized call,” according to district officials.
Staff and students were alerted via intercom the school was going into lockdown sometime around or before 9 a.m.
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department conducted a sweep of the campus and cleared the school.
“It was a prank call of some kind, or an accidental call,” HCSD Superintendent Mitchell King told the Sun Herald.
“Whichever the case may be, I don’t know which it is at this point. There was never any danger or never any threat. Never anything that could be a lockdown.”
The sheriff’s department is conducting a second sweep to ensure the campus’ safety.
