A new ranking by Realtor.com says beach lovers can spend millions on a home near the water in popular resort towns -- or they can get a bargain near the sandy beaches of Waveland and Pass Christian.
Waveland was ranked seventh and Pass Christian eighth on the company's top 10 list of America's Best Under-the-Radar (and Affordable!) Beach Towns.
This comes after Biloxi topped a different list of affordable beach towns earlier this week.
Realtor.com says the median price of a home near the water in Southampton, N.Y. is $2 million and even humble homes in the Florida Keys sell for $530,000.
The median list price is $129,950 in Waveland, according to the report, which says that rate is up 10 percent from a year ago.
In Pass Christian the median price is $297,000, a 17 percent increase over the last year.
"'The Pass,' as locals call it, has everything you'd hope for in a quaint yet quietly luxurious beach town," the report says, listing among its amenities miles of scenic shoreline, golf courses by the ocean, world-class restaurants with fresh seafood, antiques shops and art galleries.
Instead of commercial buildings on the waterfront, Waveland has Garfield Pier, the Veterans Memorial Monument and Buccaneer State Park, with large moss-draped oaks, grassy marshlands, campsites and a 4.5-acre water park.
The beach town rankings were based on proximity to the ocean, population and price appreciation.
