Poplarville, the blueberry capital of Mississippi, home to PRCC
Poplarville is known as the blueberry capital of Mississippi. Long before June’s Blueberry Jubilee became a downtown tradition, the city was named after “Poplar” Jim Smith. Smith traded 10 bushels of corn to Native Americans for his claim on the land that would later become Poplarville. Pearl River Community College, whose main campus is in Poplarville, was the first public two-year institution of higher learning in the state.
