Try a Jamaican favorite, braised ox tail stew

Today is the last day of my week of blog entries about the cultural diversity of restaurants on the Mississippi Coast.

One of my all-time favorites is Coastline Caribbean Restaurant on Pass Road and Hewes Avenue in Gulfport. If you are in the mood for something hearty and spicy, this spot is for you.

Years ago, the first time I walked in, I was the only one there not speaking Jamaican patois. I knew immediately I was on to something good.

They have a small buffet from which to order. You point and they will load your plate and everything on it is delicious.

Perhaps my favorite dish is a braised ox tail stew that is almost always on the menu.

It is rich, tender and delicious and hearty. It will be a meal long-remembered.

Pair it with fried plantains and white rice to sop the gravy up, and you won’t even think about eating again for the rest of the day. This is one of my favorite places on the Coast.
