Spice up your summer shrimp salad with these add-ons
This week I’m blogging about shrimp.
What could be more natural during the middle of Mississippi shrimp season?
There is a plethora of good things you can do with shrimp, but we all too often stick with the most common recipes: fried shrimp, boiled shrimp, shrimp and grits, even old-school shrimp boat spaghetti. See what I mean?
Why not branch out a bit and try something different?
What about a healthy and oh-so-cool shrimp salad for a hot summer day? Shrimp and lettuce? That doesn’t sound very interesting at all, but wait a minute, isn’t there something else you could add to jazz this up just a bit?
Sure there is.
Here are just a few ideas that will make that shrimp salad just sing:
Smoked bacon, slow cook the bacon until it is crispy, crumble it and add a big handful.
What about homemade garlicky croutons? Just cube crusty, locally made French bread, toss in garlic butter, and maybe a pinch or two of oregano and bake until crispy.
Avocado, garden fresh local tomatoes, pistachio nuts, boiled locally sourced, farm fresh eggs, capers and not to forget a delicious homemade garlic mayonnaise.
See what I mean? A shrimp salad just might be what you are looking for to spice up your summer menu,
