This week is dessert week, at least for this blog. There is hardly a restaurant on the Coast that doesn’t offer a pretty good selection of desserts and sweets.

Most are commercially made, and the quality varies quite a bit, but, really, when is the last time you sent a dessert back to the kitchen as unacceptable?

When it is time for dessert, we often haven’t left room, the cheeseburger and fries were just too big, or the three appetizers you ordered left no room. The best option is to order dessert on its own. It doesn’t matter what time of the day it is, just go for a coffee and the sweetest concoction you can dream of.

So what are your sweet options? Cakes, tarts, cookies, brownies, Bavarians, cupcakes, bonbons, Napoleons, and on and on we could go. But for me, a freshly made cannoli is simply the best. It has to be house-made, and it has to be piped to order. If you pre-pipe a cannoli the pastry part can become soggy. What could be worse?

Cannella in Bay St Louis makes the best one I have ever had. The cream filling is beyond description, and the dusting of powdered sugar and the zest of lemon is pure perfection.

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and explore the world of sweetness. Isn’t it calling your name?
