Check out these tasty morsels of news from the food world on the Mississippi Coast
Today I’m going to give you a quick rundown of some of the latest menu options and offerings at some of my favorite restaurants and stores along the Coast and a recipe to boot.
Scarlet’s Steak & Seafood
If you visit Scarlet’s inside the Scarlet Pearl Casino & Resort, 9380 Central Ave., D’Iberville, check out the new decor and try the amazing Foie Gras French Toast ($20) and the Sicilian favorite, Arancini (deep fried rice balls, $13).
Vestige
Vestige, 751 Washington Ave., Ocean Springs, is now open for lunch. The tomato and watermelon salad is amazing.
Sicilian II
Looking for a good but inexpensive lunch? Sicilian II,1670 Pass Road, Biloxi, has a $6.99 daily special, and make sure to try their cheese sticks as well. They are sensational.
Ole Biloxi Fillin Station
The Ole Biloxi Fillin Station, 692 Howard Ave., has an amazing Wednesday all-day hamburger steak special that is just $8.95. This maybe the best Wednesday deal on the Coast.
Maisano’s Fine Wine
Did you know that Maisano’s Fine Wine and Spirits, 1622 Bienville Blvd., Ocean Springs, has single-barrel bourbons that you will find nowhere else in the world?
The owner travels to distilleries and hand-selects bourbons, has them bottled and shipped to his store.
If you are not into the expensive stuff, try a bottle of Four Rouses. It can be had for less than $20 and is a very drinkable bourbon.
Rouses Market
Have you tried the in-store baked multigrain bread at Rouses Market? Wow, it is fantastic.
Try this recipe
Recently Kim Wilson and I have been playing around with rice. She came up with a recipe she calls Cajun Fried Rice that combines rice, a can of Rotel, chopped onion, bell pepper and celery, two eggs and chopped sausage. Give it a try!
