This was the favoritte snack of my dear friend Chef Christos Drake, owner of Sicilian II, who recently passed away.
He used the bread sticks from his restaurant, as in the picture above, and his homemade meatballs. He also dribbled on a little of his famous red sauce and a little Parmesan Reggiano would be good as well.
To make the meatballs, combine ground beef and pork, panko bread crumbs, black pepper and oregano. Form into small balls (measure so they are all the same size), sauté in olive oil and finish in your red sauce.
Use fresh, crusty French bread, slice open, stuff with meatballs and add sauce. If you just don’t have time to make it yourself, drop by Sicilian II, and if you ask nicely, they just might make a few for you. One will never be enough.
