Many of the soft ripened cheeses such as Brie and Camembert are readily available and not terribly expensive.
If you are looking for something to serve with a glass of wine, or as an appetizer, this is it.
They can be even better if you serve them with a homemade jam or preserved fruit. Perhaps my favorite would be homemade fig preserves.
Another opportunity to serve a soft-ripened cheese and fruit or jam is as a dessert course. It can be quite a bit lighter and, if you pair it correctly, much more exciting than a traditional sweet.

Don’t think you have to stick to just one cheese either. If you go with several cheeses, it might be a good idea to stick to cheeses from the same country, but that’s not a hard-and-fast rule.
