Coast musician finalist in video contest

A Coast musician was one of eight finalists in a national music competition sponsored by Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Gracie Hays, 16, entered the Berkleemusic Cover Karmin contest, producing a video of herself playing instruments and singing an original Karmin song, "Take It Away."

Contestants were encouraged to make the song their own and the winner received a scholarship toward a Music Certificate Program at Berkleemusic.com, which is the online extension of Berklee.

Since 2002, more than 20,000 students from more than 80 countries have studied online with Berkleemusic.

She is the daughter of Rick and Tonya Hays.
